JJCPA Campaign –The Juvenile Justice Crime Prevention Act (JJCPA) – has been in effect for two decades. It is a steady source of funding from the state of California to every county to provide support to young people. YJC has fought locally in Los Angeles to bring impacted community members to the decision making table with voting power. This has transformed the community’s access to these funding streams. YJC is part of a statewide coalition that is working to make systemic changes to how JJCPA funds are spent locally. 🚧IN-PROGRESS🚧
Build a Department of Youth Development by DEFUNDING at least $300M from LASD, $25M from the District Attorney’s office, and $600M from probation. DIVEST to REINVEST into creating 100 new youth centers, hire 500 intervention workers, and create 50,000 youth jobs-all across the county. ☑️PASSED ☑️
Youth Justice Reimagined implementation by demanding $95 million for youth development. 🚧IN-PROGRESS🚧
Youth Justice Workgroup leadership to move young people out of probation supervision.
Implementing probation oversight to end abusive probation practices against young people in lockups and under supervision.
To move BIPoC Youth out of Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and reinvest the money spent to displace youth affected by DCFS back into the communities they come from. 🚧IN-PROGRESS🚧
Ultimately, we eventually want to abolish DCFS.
