Please come out Saturday to help raise funds for a music program at Chuco’s. A recording studio and youth radio program has been built entirely by committed volunteers and donated equipment. But for some things , we need a little more help.
F.R.E.E. L.A. High School, started by the Youth Justice Coalition (at Chuco’s Justice Center),serves as an alternative to detention and incarceration for youth who face confinement, an educational site for youth who have been suspended or expelled from schools or entire districts, a school for youth returning home from lock-ups, and a more respectful and smaller program for youth who have left traditional schools discouraged.
We know that art and music education integrated into the school curriculum is essential for a quality education, healing and liberation. Research has linked active music making with an increase in language comprehension and development, math ability, improved school grades, team building and positive socialization, and improvements in spatial-temporal reasoning.
Youth deserve a voice!
