Thank you to everyone who contributed to the fund for mortuary, funeral and burial costs. It means so much to the Galvez family that they are able to honor and care for their mom.
The world is so lucky that Juana Galvez blessed us with her brilliant and wise daughters. Across LA and throughout the nation, people know and love the Galvez sisters for all they have done to fight for youth and community justice. For twelve years they have been active leaders in the Youth Justice Coalition – working to pass sentencing laws to end Life Without Parole and other extreme sentences for youth (SB 9, SB 260 and SB 261); to dismantle the school to jail track that both of them personally experienced – including Maritza’s leadership as a youth representatove on the national Coordinating Committee of the Dignity in Schools Campaign; ending direct file of youth into adult court – including helping to lead the efforts to pass Proposition 57; and providing court support and commnuity defense to help bring home people from jails, prisons and immigrant detention centers.
