Health
Our youth-led program that provides training, education, and resources to communities most impacted by criminalization and neglect.
Across the United States, drug overdose is one of the leading causes of death for young people. Fentanyl is now involved in the majority of overdose deaths nationwide, driving unprecedented increases since 2019. In Los Angeles County, overdose deaths have more than tripled in recent years, with Black residents experiencing some of the highest increases. Youth navigating racism, poverty, and criminalization are often left without the resources they need to stay safe.
Overdose rates for Black youth and young adults have risen at significantly faster rates than for white youth in recent years. In LA County, Black residents die from overdoses at disproportionately higher rates compared to their share of the population. Communities in South Los Angeles—already over-policed and under-resourced—face compounded risks from housing instability, limited access to culturally responsive care, and criminalization rather than treatment.
For decades, drug use has been met with arrest and incarceration instead of public health investment. Nationally, hundreds of thousands of people are arrested each year for drug-related offenses, despite evidence showing that punishment does not reduce substance use or overdose deaths. In LA County, resources continue to flow toward policing and jails, while harm reduction, prevention, and youth mental health services remain underfunded—leaving young people without life-saving support.
Street C.R.E.D. works to prevent overdose, drug-related violence, and the failed criminalization strategies that have harmed our communities for decades. We provide harm reduction education, substance use prevention, Narcan distribution, and mental health workshops addressing anxiety, depression, peer pressure, boundaries, self-care, and healthy relationships. Our approach centers wellness, dignity, and community-based solutions—not punishment.
We equip communities with life-saving tools, challenge the criminalization of substance use, and create pathways to healing through care, education, and connection.
We provide free trainings on how to safely administer Narcan, a life-saving medication that reverses opioid overdoses.
We offer workshops and peer-led sessions that teach harm reduction strategies, challenge stigma, and empower people to make informed choices about their health and safety.
Our team of youth organizers connects directly with people in schools, detention centers, and community spaces to offer care, resources, and support without judgment.
We distribute free harm reduction supplies—like fentanyl test strips, condoms, and hygiene kits—to help people stay safe and cared for wherever they are.
From healing circles to public actions, we host events that build awareness, foster connection, and organize for real alternatives to incarceration.
Your donation directly supports free Narcan trainings, harm reduction kits, and life-saving outreach led by systems-impacted youth. Every dollar helps us meet our people with care—not punishment—and build a future where our communities are safe, supported, and free. Give today and invest in healing, not handcuffs.
